About Us

We describe an ‘Investing Thesis’ as the rationale underpinning the making of an investment. You can have a number of investing theses, ranging from the micro level such as having an investing thesis for a particular stock, option or futures contract, all the way up to the macro level, where your investment thesis might help in determining which asset class (be it equities, real estate, commodities bonds etc.) might provide superior investment returns. In other words, having an ‘Investing Thesis’ can not only give you the basis for making an investment but it can also provide you with an understanding of how that investment will generate returns in the context of your larger ‘Investment Thesis.’ Having an ‘Investment Thesis’ also helps us focus our investments and disallow deviations based on impulsivity, and populist beliefs amongst other things.

The only caveat to our ‘Investing Thesis’ follows in the musings of John Maynard Keynes, who said “When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?”

Arjun Rudra

My name is Arjun Rudra. I started blogging in 2006. I have only been investing and involved in the capital markets for 4 years but very early on I came to realize and formulate opinions on who I consider to be experts in the various fields I follow. After a year of blogging, an article I wrote caught the fancy of a business reporter from the Globe and Mail (a national newspaper in Canada). The article was a brief primer on how retail investors can piggy back off the trends and stock picks of fund managers/analysts by scouring through the immense information available on the internet. One thing led to another and I was asked to make a few comments in a nationally syndicated article with a profile picture to boot. The mainstream exposure helped me in make a few connections in the world in finance, which led to a series of interviews. I’m trying to interview and glean the insights of as many professionals in the capital markets as I possibly can. In the hopes that one day, I can assimilate the knowledge and smarts needed to be a successful investor and eventually - financially free.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Simon Fraser University in 2009. During my days at Simon Fraser, I recall exponentially more productive study sessions when engaged with a partner or two. In the same vein, I hope you join me, perhaps even assist me in the completion of my quest - to be financially free by age 35 (I was born in ’85 and that should provide you with enough information to deduce my age). I solemnly pledge to notate what I’ve learned and be as open, transparent and helpful as I possibly can in my writing but also in my interaction with you - to which I look forward.
